Dutch East Indies Army
The Koninklijk Nederlands Indisch Leger was the title given to the Dutch military force that protected the Colony known as the Dutch East Indies. The KNIL was commanded by Dutch personnel with most of the officers and senior NCOs originating from the Netherlands. The rest of the army was filled by troops native to the area. By 1941 the regular army contained around 35.000 troops with a reserve force also available.
