NotesInitially developed as a rescue vehicle in the Florida swamps, the Alligator attracted the attention of the US navy and these were dubbed “Landing Vehicle Tracked”. The first LVTs were developed as a supply crafts, the LVT-1 was soon used to deliver troops to the beach and could carry up to 18 men. They were armed with a mixture of .30 cal and .50 cal Machines Guns which gave them some punch, but the vehicle itself had no armoured plating and was found to be unreliable over hard ground.
