Russian Army

After the 1938 purges the Russian army was forced to replace the officers who were either jailed or executed, with men with little or no experience of commanding such large forces. The army was also starting to replace its old weapons with more modern equipment and training for such changes was being implement during 1939. The Red army could field around 11.000.000 men when fully mobilised and these were formed into around 100 rifle and territorial divisions, one motorised rifle brigade and twelve Cavalry divisions. The tank arm was formed into ten tank brigades.
