Latvian Army

Latvia was declared independent in 1918 but it took another four years before this declaration was recognised. Latvia’s peacetime army consisted of 25.500 men. This total included 1.200 strong frontier guard brigade, this total increased to 150.000 when fully mobilized. The army had four infantry divisions, cavalry regiment and a technical division which included their only armoured regiment and medium anti-aircraft guns, heavy artillery and engineers, it also contained aviation units and armoured trains. Other units included nine regiments of “Home Guards”.
