French Army
In 1940 the French army was the second largest in the world, it had around 900,000 men and could call on an another 5,000,000 reserves. It also contained troops from the many French colonies and Polish exiles and could field 97 divisions.
Most of these were infantry and fortress troops but the French army could boast seven armoured and mechanical light divisions, seven motorised divisions along with five cavalry divisions.
