Organized 25 August 1917 at Camp McClellan, Alabama.
Inactivated 30 May 1919 at Camp Dix, New Jersey.
Activated 28 January 1926 with headquarters at Washington, District of Columbia.
Ordered into active federal service 3 February 1941 at Washington, District of Columbia.
Reorganized and redesignated 12 March 1942 as the 29th Infantry Division.
Inactivated 17 January 1946 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey.
Activated 23 October 1946 with headquarters at Norfolk, Virginia.
