Organized 8 August 1917 at Camp Sevier, South Carolina.
Inactivated 7 May 1919 at Camp Jackson, South Carolina.
Activated 24 August 1920 with headquarters at Atlanta, Georgia.
Ordered into federal service 16 September 1940 at Macon, Georgia.
Reorganized and redesignated 16 February 1942 as the 30th Infantry Division.
Inactivated 25 November 1945 at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
Activated 21 February 1947 with headquarters at Nashville, Tennessee.
