Ordered into federal service 25 November 1940 at San Antonio, Texas.
Reorganized and redesignated 11 July 1941 as the 36th Infantry Division.
Inactivated 13 December 1945 at Camp Patrick Henry, Virginia.
Activated 10 December 1946 with headquarters at Austin, Texas.
