Organized 27 August 1917 at Camp Lee, Virginia.
Inactivated 5 June 1919 at Camp Lee, Virginia.
Activated in December 1921 with headquarters at Richmond, Virginia.
Ordered into active military service 15 July 1942 and reorganized at Camp Forrest, Tennessee.
Redesignated 1 August 1942 as the 80th Infantry Division.
Inactivated 4 January 1946 at Cam Kilmer, New Jersey.
Redesignated 15 July 1946 as the 80th Airborne Division.
Activated 23 December 1946 with headquarters at Richmond, Virginia.
