LINEAGE

Constituted 5 September 1918 as the 97th Division.
Organized 26 September 1918 at Camp Cody, New Mexico.
Inactivated 22 December 1922 at Camp Cody, New Mexico.
Activated in December 1921 with headquarters at Manchester, New Hampshire.
Ordered into active military service 25 February 1943 and reorganized at Camp Swift, Texas as the 97th Infantry Division.
Inactivated 31 March 1946 in Japan.
