NotesA designed by Browning the BAR first saw action in 1918 and was well liked mainly because of its reliability. It was modernised in small numbers around 1937 with the model A1 and again in 1939 with the A2, the A2 had two fire settings, slow automatic (300-450 rpm) and fast automatic (500-650 rpm), the A2 was the most common model used in World War Two, it was issued at one per Squad (or three in the US Marines), and it soldiered on from WW1 to Vietnam.
