NotesThe short 25 pounder was a developed by the Australian army to produce a gun which could be broken down into parts for air transport or towed by a jeep. The terrain in which Australian forces were fighting across was not suited to heavy artillery and most heavy weapons had to keep coastal areas due to the narrow tracks through the jungle and forest’s. The gun had a shorter barrel and a lighter trail which reduced the range. The new gun first reached the troops in 1943 and equipped one battery in every three in field artillery regiments.
