The KNIL were equipped with vehicles from a number of countries including Britain and the USA. They also had a dozen armoured cars designed by the Hungarian firm of Straussler. Armoured companies were equipped with either Vickers or Marmon Herrington light tanks. Prior to the Japanese invasion 49 Marmon Herrington armoured cars were delivered but none had any armament and only around 27 of these were eventually equipped with machine guns.
