NotesThe 220mm mle 16 was first used by the French army in World War One. It was used to hit fortifications located on the reserve slopes of hills and ridge lines. The only drawback was the time it took to move the howitzer into position and get it ready for firing, apart from that it was a very accurate piece and many were still in service in 1940.
