Notes | The Panzer Mk. IV Ausf J was the last in the line of mark IV and had various modifications and changes. The most important was the omission of the engine which gave the turret power traverse, this was now done by hand. Extra armour was given to the turret roof and a Nahverteidigungswaffe (smoke discharger and close defense mortar) was added. The running gear had only three return rollers on each side and various pistol ports and vision ports were also omitted. The Skirt Armour was replaced by wire mesh Schürzen. The Ausf J saw action on every major front from mid-1944 to the end of the war. |
