Notes | The Panzer 38(t) was developed as a replacement for the LT.Vz.35. although the Czech army had ordered the tank, none were in service by March 1939. The German army saw how good the vehicle was and ordered production to be continued. The first thing the German designers wanted was a two man turret so an extra crewmen was added as a loader with the space being created by removing some ammunition racks. The gun was the Skoda A7 which was called the 37mm KwK 37 by the Germans. The main advantage of the Panzer 38(t) was its running gear, with large road wheels and leaf spring suspension. It was a very reliable vehicle and its chassis was used for a number of conversions, many as a tank destroyer. The first four models (Ausf A, B, C & D) were virtually the same except for minor details and served on every front except North Africa. |
