NotesIn September 1941 the order came to equip all newly built StuG IIIs with long 75mm guns. The order also requested an increase in armour. These requests were down to the dominance of Soviet tanks like the T-34 and KV-1. The Sturmgeschütz Ausf F was the first vehicle to implement these changes and subsequent vehicles were mounted with the 75mm StuK 40 and additional armoured plates. Other changes were made to the gun mantlet to carry the larger gun and extractor fan fitted to the roof of the fighting compartment. The Ausf F saw service in Russian, North Africa and southern Europe.
