Notes | The Jagdtiger was produced after a request from the German high command for a heavy tank destroyer mounting a 128mm gun. The Tiger II was chosen to provide the chassis and this was lengthened to incorporate the new hull. The fighting compartment was built with very thick armour and mounted the powerful 128mm PaK 44 gun. The vehicle was very heavy in relation to its engine, which caused many mechanical problems including breakdowns. The Jagdtiger was only issued to two formations and these fought on German soil. |
