NotesA need for an armoured vehicle mounting a flame-thrower had been realized as early as 1939, a request for such a tank to neutralize enemy strongpoints was answered by using adapting the Panzer II light tank. The ausf D and E chassis were used and the vehicle had a new turret which mounted a MG34 machine gun, two flame-thrower were mounted in twin turrets mounted on each corner of the vehicles front and were remote controlled by the commander sat in the turret. They first saw action in Russia but due to poor protection they suffered high losses. In late 1941 the surviving vehicles were converted into marder tank destroyers.
