NotesThe Ho-Ni III was developed as a tank destroyer and was based on the chassis of the Chi-Ha medium tank. It differed from other versions of self-propelled gun because the crew were protected by a fully enclosed fighting compartment. The Ho-Ni III was never issued to units outside Japan and were used to defend the home islands.
