NotesAfter the battle of Kursk it was decided to up-grade the T-34 and this was brought about by the appearance of heavier German armour. The main job was design a gun capable of knocking out the Tiger and Panther tanks and after various testing, the 85mm chosen. The gun needed a new turret and one that could hold a three man turret crew. The T-34/85 was adopted as the standard Soviet medium tank and gradually replaced the earlier models.
