| Notes | The STV-38 (Samozaryadnaya Vintovka Tokareva) was a semi-automatic rifle which was designed by Tokarev and developed during the early 1930s as a replacement to the bolt-actioned Nagant rifles. It was put into production in 1939 and saw action during the war with Finland. It got a mixed reaction from the troops who found it too long and hard to maintain in the field, problems with the magazine falling out during battle was another issue. Despite the problems around 150.000 were built before production was halted. A modified version was issued, which was known as the STV-40 and this was a lighter version with improvements made to the magazine and handguard, it was also simpler to produce and built in large numbers. Both models never come near to replacing the Nagant rifle and was mainly issued to NCOs and special units. |
