British AT Guns

Britain started the war with the 2pdr anti-tank gun and this modern gun was the standard weapon of anti-tank regiments. These regiment were up-graded as the war went on and by 1942 the more powerful 6 pdr was replacing the 2 pdr as the standard gun. The 2 pdr was then given to the infantry and kept at battalion level until it was replaced entirely by the 6 pdr. By 1943 the excellent 17 pdr was being issued and gave the British a potent weapon when dealing with heavy German armour.
By 1944 the anti-tank regiments were equipped as follows, ATRs in infantry divisions were issued with 6 pdr and 17 pdr guns and ATRs in armoured divisions were equipped entirely with 17 pdrs.
