British Heavy Artillery

Heavy regiments were equipped with 60 pdr guns, 8in and 9in howitzers and these were used in the early phase of World War Two. Larger weapons like the 12 howitzer remained in use as a home defense weapon. By 1941 many of the old type were withdrawn from front line use and used for training and from 1942 the 7.2in howitzer was issued as the standard heavy howitzer.
