British Cavalry divisions
By the start of World War Two, the British had only one cavalry division. This was formed in 1939 from two Territorial cavalry brigades and one new cavalry brigade. Elements of the division were detached to form Habforce, which fought against Vichy French forces in Iraq and Syria. In 1941 the division was formed into the 10th armoured division and saw service in Egypt.
