American AA Guns

The Quad .50 Cal, 37mm M1A1 and 40mm M1, were issued to Mobile Automatic Weapons Batteries and along with the 90mm Gun Batteries, were contained in Anti-Aircraft Battalions, these Battalions were none-Divisional Units and usually kept at Corps level under “Anti-Aircraft Artillery" Group control and were allocated to Divisions when needed. After World War Two an AAA Mobile Automatic Weapons Battalion was added to each Division as an organic component. The number of these Battalions decreased as the threat from the Luftwaffe declined; AA Battalions 575 (October 1943), Reduced to 460 (1944). 3-Inch M3s were usually found in coastal defence Batteries or used in a static roll.
